Financial Analyst
Primary Purpose:
- For an interstate pipeline, provide a variety of analytical services that support and promote the Business Management and Development Department, including but not limited to analysis in the following areas: Financial (budgets/forecasts), Invoicing, Regulatory, and Systems/IT (user standpoint).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Financial Forecasting:
- On a weekly basis, prepare detailed monthly, quarterly and annual financial income statement level transportation and storage revenue and cost projections/variance analyses for one or more federally regulated interstate gas pipelines.
- Collect information from various parties (such as Marketing, Operations and Accounting), to aid in forecast development.
- Prepare annual budgets and quarterly income statement level packages for CEO level review.
- Work closely with Accounting to communicate details of forecast to ensure proper entries and accruals.
- Invoicing:
- Each month, participate in closing process by preparing accurate and timely invoices related to interstate gas transportation services.
- Accounts Receivable:
- Interact with Marketing to track and collect Accounts Receivable.
- Regulatory:
- Interact with Regulatory and Legal Departments to thoroughly understand and apply appropriate business practices, rules of operation (tariff) and rates to approved interstate gas transportation and storage services for forecasting and invoicing.
- Produce various reports and/or data for Regulatory filings, support of inquiries and potential rate case support.
- Information Systems (User):
- Actively use proprietary computer system (iDART) to support and promote goals of Business Management and Development. Use this system extensively to provide source data for financial forecasts and invoicing.
- Identify, track and work with IT personnel to resolve issues related to proprietary computer system (iDART).
- Write specifications, develop detailed test cases, develop and execute test plans and provide feedback to IT for changes/additions to proprietary computer system (iDART).
- Customer Interaction:
- For internal and external customers, effectively communicate the approved business practices, rules of operation (tariff) and rates regarding approved transportation and storage services.
- Investigate and resolve customer inquiries/disputes.
- Effectively communicate to team and management issues that relate to the goals of Business Management and Development.
- Understand physical operations of interstate gas pipeline and incorporate into sound business recommendations.
- Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes.
- Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
- Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
- Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
- May be required to work non-traditional hours.
- Infrequent but occasional travel (sometimes overnight) across a reasonable geographic region may be required.
- Complete special projects and annual objectives as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Engineering or related field is required.
- A minimum of five years’ work experience as an analyst or working in a capacity where there is significant budget, forecasting, accounting or project management may be accepted as a degree substitute.
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
- With a degree, minimum one year experience as an analyst, or in a role involving significant budget, forecasting, accounting or project management work.
- General understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to multiple business segments, and internal and external customers/clients.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (required if the job involves any degree of travel, rental car, etc.).
Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong reading, listening and analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues/problems, and actively and positively contribute to Department and Company strategy.
- Intermediate to Advanced proficiency level with Microsoft applications, including but not limited to: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, for purpose of word processing, spreadsheets, analysis, presentations and information retrieval.
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing projects and daily work, seeing such to completion, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal direct supervision.
- Must be able to analyze events at the transaction level, and apply sound and consistent policies to those events.
- Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules.
- Must possess and regularly demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a regulated environment that may include handling of sensitive company and customer information.
- Must be able to identify and understand expectations in an employee/employer (subordinate/manager) relationship.
- Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
Working Conditions:
- Modern office location in Lakewood, Colorado (Denver Metro).
- Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, & Abilities:
(Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:)
- Experience in the natural gas industry or regulated natural gas transportation environment highly desirable.
- Experience with iDART/DARTplus preferred.
- Experience with Crystal Reports or other third party reporting software helpful.
- Experience with Customer Interface Systems helpful, but not required.
- Experience with Lawson GL modules preferred.
- Knowledge of the various business units of Kinder Morgan is helpful.
- Knowledge of FERC regulatory and accounting rules, and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is desirable.
