Engineering Project Manager
The Engineering Project Manager will be reporting directly to the Engineering Manager and will have no direct reports. This position will be responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, and directing project activities with regard to engineering, design, feasibility, planning, cost estimating, construction, and start-up of projects at all USS plants. The Project Manager will also provide
assistance to assigned plants in the areas of safety, conceptual design, feasibility studies, the establishment of project scopes, equipment selection, cost estimates, and PAR submittals.
Primary responsibilities of the Engineering Project Manager will include providing construction
overview of contractor work, provide cost estimates for expense and capital projects, and assist plant accountants with management of costs of construction projects.
Additional responsibilities will include providing technical assistant to plant operations, assisting with contractor selection for construction projects, and providing start-up assistance of new equipment (when involved with installation).
The PM will be working in the office environment approximately 60 to 70 percent of the time; the remaining 30 percent will be at one of the plants. The office work will entail engineering calculations, research, phone conversations, and meetings. Much time is spent at computer terminals completing such tasks as spreadsheet creating, preparing Word documents, minimal amounts of drafting, and e-mail correspondence. The day-to-day activities are very independent; there is only about 5 to 10 percent of interaction with the immediate supervisor on a daily basis.
Specific Responsibilities

Qualifications
Experience and Education
- An undergraduate degree is required, an Engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural,
- Mining, Industrial, Construction, or equivalent
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a construction oversight environment
Additional Qualifications
- Previous experience with the basics of mineral handling and mineral processing
- Must be technically and mathematically organized
- Organization skills are important in the preparation of job specifications, engineering solutions, and cost control
- Must be knowledgeable in spreadsheet work, work processing, communications, internet, and (to a lesser degree) AutoCAD
- Previous knowledge of material handling systems, pumping, construction contract preparation, project management skills, and cost control
- Needs to be confident of existing experiences yet willing to explore new concepts presented by others
- Needs to be open-minded, ingenious, and creative – almost all plant projects arise of out a need to solve or correct some type of problem (or opportunity), solutions are not always obvious
