Sr. Staff Geologist, Appalachian Division

Description

  • Southwestern Energy is seeking an innovative and creative Geologist for its rapidly expanding Marcellus shale project. The successful candidate will work with a multi-discipline team of technical experts to optimize field developments and recognize new opportunities.  This key position includes both technical and leadership roles.
  • The technical aspect will require an industry expert in fundamental petroleum geology plus expertise, or the desire to become expert, in non-conventional reservoirs. Important areas would include tectonic/stratigraphic framework, depositional models, mineralogy, pore systems, geochemisty, diagenetic processes, and natural fracture characterization.
  • The successful candidate would be responsible for representing SWN at consortia meetings, researching and recommending new joint industry consortia, integrating in-house data, developing new evaluation methods and implementing those ideas for maximum impact.
  • The leadership aspect will entail coordination with other disciplines to ensure crossover of ideas, mentoring less experienced geologists, and communicating new ideas and techniques to operations personnel and senior management.
  • Experience with comprehensive workflows and tools is desired – log analysis, geostatistics, geo-cellular modeling, 3D flow modeling and seismic attribute analysis.  The ideal candidate will be able to assess complex problems, develop and implement creative solutions and constructively challenge conventional thinking.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Geology
  • Minimum 20 years’ experience in petroleum exploration and development
  • A track record of creative thinking and success
  • Prior experience with unconventional gas resources is desired
