Pit Geologist Open Pit Mining

Our client is one of Canada’s premier independent mining companies, specializing in metallurgical coal.  They are looking for an experienced Pit Geologist to provide guidance to the mining operations team to ensure quality targets are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with mine operations personnel to ensure the correct coal is mined to meet processing plant requirements.
  • Interface with mine planning engineers in developing mining schedules and mine plans.
  • Coal reconciliations, maintaining geological database and conducting in-pit drilling programs.
  • Updating the geological model with pit and field mapping and drill hole data on a timely basis.
  • Support the Mine Engineering and Mine Operations departments with up to date coal quality and coal seam dig plans.
  • Interact with mine staff, operations, mine engineers, other geologist and key stakeholders.
  • Maintain a high level of Health and Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring and revision of standard work procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of environmental performance.

Key Qualifications:

  • B. SC or graduate degree in Geology.
  • Minimum of two years experience in geological operations experience in resource development, preferably in coal mining in coal exploration and/or Mining geology.
  • Knowledgeable in computerized resource modeling.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ensure compliance to Mine Standards and Legislative requirements.
  • Understanding of coal strata and open pit coal mining methods.
  • Good skill in structural geology.
  • Computer literacy in mine modeling software such as Minescape-Mincom.
  • Understanding of the mine legislation in BC.
