PRINCIPAL METALLURGIST

Our global client is one of the worlds largest EPCM companies.

This position has overall responsibility for the work performed at the management or specialist level in the process engineering department.  As leading experts the Principal Metallurgist is a key element in the professional profile of the company.  Principal Metallurgists direct the work of professional engineers and technical staff on engineering studies and projects of various sizes and duration, or function as engineering consultants, in the areas of:

  • General mineral process.
  • Process simulation.
  • Hydrometallurgy.
  • Pyrometallurgy.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and reviews the work of professional engineers and process specialists on projects of various sizes and durations, including:
  • Scoping / Feasibility and pre-feasibility studies.
  • Basic and detailed engineering.
  • Participates in proposal and presentation.
  • Start-up and commissioning assistance.
  • Ensures that safety and quality requirements are met.
  • Establishes the process engineering scope of work, execution plan and man-hour estimates for proposals and projects.
  • Peer reviewer for process engineering work on projects and studies.
  • Acts as technical consultant on process engineering issues.
  • Fosters a spirit of enthusiasm, client focus and team building.
  • Mentors junior engineering staff.

Qualification

  • Bachelor degree in mineral process or chemical engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 12 - 15 years of relevant experience.
  • A leading expert who can act as a key element in the professional profile of the company.
  • Ability to participate in the Process Engineering Department strategic planning
  • A deep and thorough understanding of the field of process engineering primarily in the mining and metallurgical sector, gained through a combination of operational, design-office and site experience.
  • Effective delegation of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • A focus on Quality, Operability and Safety.
