Industrial Hygiene Intern
Job Description
- United States Steel Corporation has an opening for a part-time student position in its Safety & Industrial Hygiene organization in the Minnesota Ore facility located in Mt. Iron, MN.
- Candidate must be willing to commit to a minimum of three months of employment. The intern will work an average of 40 hrs./week during the summer.
The student will receive training in the following areas:
- Administration of the U. S. Steel safety and industrial hygiene management system to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
- Assisting the facility in implementing corporate and facility specific Industrial Hygiene initiatives.
- Assist in completing IH Baseline Sampling.
- Learning the integrated safety and industrial hygiene practices and principles through the assigned facility.
- Conducting health hazard surveys within the operating facility to determine the magnitude of employee exposures to chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological stresses.
- Learning the Industrial Hygiene System and maintaining the industrial hygiene recordkeeping and documentation.
- Learning and understanding the steel making process.
- This entry-level training position provides the student with exposure to various aspects of U.S. Steel’s Safety and Industrial hygiene department, as well as interaction with the plant operations within the corporation, providing a well-rounded basic knowledge of the safety and industrial hygiene program.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Health or a closely related field.
- Completion or working towards completion of sophomore year and be in good academic standing.
- Ability and willingness to work the schedule outlined above.
- Continuation of an acceptable grade point average while participating in the program.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent planning and organization skills.
- Computer literacy to a working skills level - proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
