Senior Estimator - Industrial

Overview:

• This Estimating position will support [Company]  Industrial Group. Plans, coordinates, and directs full estimating services on large, more complex and high risk types of projects. Must have ability to prepare complex proposals with minimal supervision. Incumbent has profit/loss responsibility to the company.

Responsibilities:

• May supervise staff, including: establishing and communicating performance expectations, providing positive and constructive feedback, determining training and development needs and conducting on-the-job training. May conduct Career Development Reviews. May make hiring, discipline and/or termination decisions.
• Reviews and assists preparation of the proposals and bid documents to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
• Reviews contractual requirements to determine contractual scope of work.
• Calculates and prepares material and work item quantities (takeoffs), comparison reports, charts and tables for items of work or projects. Assists in the preparation of all material pricing, labor production analysis, equipment pricing, general conditions and direct job expenses and any cost elements required to complete the estimate. Demonstrates ability to develop detailed unit pricing, including labor/equipment production and material costs for all trade work associated with CSI Divisions 2 through 9.
• May develop a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems as they relate to typical project types.
• Interfaces with the Owner, Architect/Engineer, and any other contractors or subcontractors to provide bid assistance, design assistance, value engineering studies, constructability review, and project schedule analysis.
• Coordinates the entire Design Phase process including the Owner, City, and Architect/Engineers on small to medium projects as assigned. Develops meeting management skills and prepares meeting minutes as required.
• Coordinates the entire competitive bid process on small to medium projects as assigned. May assist in preparation of early GMP's based on incomplete or early document packages under the supervision of the lead estimator.
• Maintains files of working estimate documents; Bid Book, Addenda, Bid Documents and/or Preconstruction Handbook; on projects that are currently in the Estimating Department and as assigned.
• Participates in activities to support the company's strategic planning efforts and/or improve specific business or construction processes.
• Participates on complex project estimating efforts under the supervision of lead estimator. Supports preparation of estimate information and presentation material for milestone estimates and interim cost data. May maintain Design Evolution Log throughout design phase.
• Prepares bid inquiries, including those of a more technical and specialized nature. Negotiate and award subcontractors and purchase order agreements with subcontractors/vendors.
• Coordinates with the purchasing administrator in the preparation of subcontracts, purchase order agreements, cost control budgets and the maintenance of our historical cost and database.
• Maintains professional working relationships with subcontractors.
• Participates in an active review and exchange of information process with operations for all current projects, which may include job site visits to projects during the construction phase.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Educational and experience requirements include: 

• Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience. Five to eight years estimating, cost analysis and control, and/or engineering experience (at least five years estimating experience) in similar facility construction.  Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques, selective engineering disciplines, cost control systems, building systems and components, project scheduling methods and techniques, contractual language and ramifications are required.
• Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts, ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort, and ability to represent the company on any essential matters.
