Practitioner, Occupational Hygiene

  • Conduct continuous Hygiene Inspections and propose improvements where applicable. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a personal learning and growth plan to ensure continued development. 
  • Monitor and provide regular feedback to employees responsible for Hygiene in the different divisions to ensure Hygiene objectives and targets are achieved.

Minimum Requirements

  • Certificate Mine Environmental Control ( Recommended / Desirable )
  • National Diploma: Occupational Hygiene ( Essential / Minimum)
  • Occupational Hygiene In Sheq Environment (5 years)
  • SASHOM (Essential/Minimum )

Job Specification

  • Conduct continuous Hygiene Inspections and propose improvements where applicable.   
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a personal learning and growth plan to ensure continued development.   
  • Monitor and provide regular feedback to employees responsible for Hygiene in the different divisions to ensure Hygiene objectives and targets are achieved.
  • Conduct workplace surveys and assessments, evaluate situations in the workplace. 
  • Support the Senior (Ventilation) Occ Hygienist in assessing risks to health arising from different factors (chemicals, noise, poor lighting or ventilation) of work areas where employees are exposed to hazardous substances. 
  • Refer employees to medical facilities to ensure employee Hygiene problems are identified and addressed. 
  • Partake in the implementation of training programs in order to comply with Occupational Health and Hygiene Regulations. 
  • Assist with the implementation of Medical and Hygiene procedures.
  • Provide operational supports to ensure that adherence to all hygiene processes in accordance with policies, systems and procedures that are legal requirements and sound corporate governance principles.
  • Provide operational information to the Head, SHE/C to ensure that all hygiene policies, procedures, standards and guidelines are developed taking into account the specific requirements of the BU.
  • Ensure the implementation of management standard by participating in the development of site specific procedures which in alignment with corporate governance and statutory and non-statutory requirements.
  • Support and work with the Head, SHE/C to ensure that all policies, procedures, standards and guidelines are developed to better enable the specific requirements of the operation area. 
  • Ensure direct reports are familiar with the provisions of the SHEC legislation and all amendments thereto, as well as any other legislation which may impact on the activities at the operations.
  • Provide support to the customer in the development of Hygiene services framework and processes for central repository management.  
  • Assist in the evaluation of discipline-specific standards, principles and practice to enable planning, design and implementation of safe outcomes that support the business strategy
  • Ensure & maintain a healthy environment, safe operations & practices.
  • Responsible for own safety & for the clients. 
  • Compliance to all applicable SHEC policies & procedures in line with set standards. 
  • Report defects & incidents. 
  • Ensure good housekeeping principles are upheld in the work place.
  • Execute responsibilities in a manner that is in accordance to guidelines and standards associated with quality service delivery of Hygiene services.  
  • Deliver responsibilities in a manner that is aligned to the services framework and consistent with customer agreements.
