Field Support Technician
Description:
- Intermountain Electronics, Inc , a leading manufacturer of electrical distribution and control equipment products, is seeking a Field Support Technician located in the Mt. Vernon, IL area. Our company serves multiple business sectors such as: underground and surface mining, refineries, oil and gas, tunneling, power generation, and government.
- As a Field Support Technician, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing and servicing of surface and underground mining equipment, e.g. longwall, switchgear, electrical switches, programmable process controllers, variable frequency drives, relays, breakers, data loggers, reduced voltage starters, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and other electronic instrumentation equipment.
Key Duties:
- Troubleshoot electrical distribution equipment to resolve electrical/mechanical field issues and make necessary repairs
- Conduct electrical testing and recommend or initiate modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards
- Plans and records periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards
- Checks functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions
- Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions
- Adjust, calibrate, align, and modifies circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance
- The Field Support Technician will work with the local Sales Representative and Project Manager to insure positive customer response
- The Field Support Technician is expected to gain respect from customers and grow business through personal growth in product line
Requirements:
- Strong electrical and mechanical background with a minimum of 3-5 years of practical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent overall troubleshooting skills, including but not limited to electrical and mechanical aspects of mining equipment
- Knowledge of practices, methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in the design, manufacture, installation, testing, calibration, and repair of electrical equipment and devices common to the mining industry
- Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of high voltage electrical testing and safety procedures
- Experience in calibrating and repairing a wide variety of electrical equipment and instrumentation devices
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain various electrical tools, testing devices, meters, etc.
- Strong customer service background
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision,
- depth perception and ability to adjust focus; frequently stand; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Current MSHA electrical certification both surface and underground
- Current 40 hour MSHA miner certification
- 48 hour work week and be on-call
