STRABAG, a world renowned engineering and construction company based in Austria, has extensive experience including tunneling and specialized underground engineering and project development.  The company was selected to design and construct the Niagara Tunnel Project enabling Ontario Power Generation to generate renewable electricity.

Job Title: Health & Safety Assistant

Position Description:

• Assist the H&S Manager to ensure compliance with OHSA and regulations
• Assist in developing, implementing, maintaining and enforcing Company safety program
• Conduct safety inspections, audits and incident investigations
• Continuously complete Risk Analysis and Hazard identification for each workplace
• Provide safety inductions and safety training courses
• Inspection and Maintenance of Safety equipment
• Liaise with MOL and other external local and government agencies as needed.
• Inspect and monitor confined space work activities along with "Lock and Tag out" procedures for compliance, completion of documentation and submissions
• Ensure regular BTEX and tunnel air samples are taken and gas readings are recorded
• Be familiar with safety department filing and record keeping
• Attend safety and construction meetings as required
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Minimum 8 years H & S experience - preferably in a heavy civil construction environment
• Tunneling and/or mining experience is an asset
• Familiar with and a very good knowledge of OHSA and Regulations.
• Working knowledge of  Microsoft Office (Word &  Excel, PowerPoint)
• Successfully trained in, or able to obtain and provide training in Basics of Supervision, Fall protection, Forklift, Hoisting & rigging, Elevated work platforms, Traffic control, First aid/CPR and Propane handling.
• Be WSIB safety certified and familiar with WSIB documents, claims and incident management
• Must have a valid driver's license and provide own transportation
