Laboratory Superintendent

• Degree in Analytical Chemistry or similar qualifications.
• A post-graduate management qualification will be an advantage.
• 10 years’ experience in a laboratory environment of which 4 years must be at middle management level.
• Knowledge of Smelters/heavy industry environment essential.
• Track record of maintaining good Safety and Housekeeping standards
• Ability to effectively manage a unionized workplace.

Includes but not limited to:

• Overall responsibility for the efficient running and proper supervision of the Laboratory
• Performance & People management, Quality assurance, Data management
• Ensures that all employees are fully aware of all relevant instructions, procedures and notices by conducting regular meetings, safety talks and by using the notice board to convey safety information.
• Ensure compliance with all procedures and regulations.

Knowledge:

• Understanding the operation and calibrating of the ICP, XRF, Carbon & Sulphur and general laboratory instruments.
• Proficiency in gravimetric analysis and wet chemical analysis.
• Must be Computer literate
• Knowledge of a LIMS program will be an advantage.
• Competence in implementing and maintaining of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard is compulsory
• ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 Standards
