Engineering Manager
Primary Function:
- The primary objective of this position is to lead exempt, non-exempt and hourly personnel in the implementation and tracking of capital projects, equipment maintenance, process development, oversight of facility and utilities and the management of EHS to ensure a safe and compliant factory for the manufacturing of quality drugs products.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish, maintain and improve all plant physicals systems, manufacturing equipment, plant utility systems and grounds.
- Plan and control engineering operation budgets and capital expenditures. Ensure compliance to Corporate, and Site financial policies.
- Ensure compliance to Federal, State and Corporate regulatory requirements.
- Obtain appropriate human resources to accomplish objectives. Ensure effective training and development of Department personnel.
- Coordinate activities with other organizations at Plant and Corporate levels.
- Provide interface on key issues and problems with Corporate Management.
- Ensure GMP compliance and conformance to all regulatory requirements.
- Provide the technical resolution to plant manufacturing problems on a timely basis and with appropriate urgency.
- Establish systems to resolve and prevent recurring problems.
- Identify opportunities for departmental performance improvement, develop alternative solutions to potential problem areas and establish necessary contingency plans.
- Set goals for long range planning and plant profit performance improvement.
- Responsible for a facility compliant with all global regulations applicable to our products and processes, that includes proper care and maintenance of all structures, grounds, facilities and utilities. Responsible for the proper calibration of all instrumentation along maintaining current as-built validated drawings.
- Provide oversight of the Machine Shop, Design Engineer and Drafting Department to optimize equipment performance; provide quick turnaround of new parts and in-house development of new equipment where applicable
- Oversight of the Plant Electrical Engineer and Instrumentation Department to support and maintain all the electrical and electronics needs of the plant including visions systems, PLC’s, etc.
- Oversight of the Environmental, Heath and Safety (EHS) Department to ensure all State, Regulatory, FM and OSHA compliance. Work with Management and Plant personnel to drive a safety culture within the Plant environment.
Experience:
- Incumbent must have a minimum of 10 years industrial experience, including at least 7 years in supervisory and management positions. The incumbent must have a proven track record of promotions and outstanding achievements. The position requires a B.S. degree in Engineering and an M.B.A. or M.S., substituted only by several years of demonstrated performance. The incumbent should have a background of technical and managerial achievements. The position requires a very high level of resourcefulness, an ability to get things done by removing obstacles, perceiving and resolving problems, making difficult decisions with less than complete information provided, and accomplishing project and operational goals through innovative management.
Problem Solving:
- Conducts or directs detailed, comprehensive formal analysis of existing total line processes, impact of new or changed processes, alternatives available to achieve desired results and related matters. Utilize knowledge of state of art practices, together with own creativity and imagination to develop unique solutions for solving point problems or improving overall process.
Accountability:
- The incumbent is primarily accountable for the successful operation of the plant. The position requires the coordinating, monitoring, guiding and administering of the engineering organization. Under only general managerial direction and review, the incumbent is accountable for performance with a high level of skill in the following specific area:
- Short and long range planning, organization, supervision and execution of delegated responsibility to assure quality, compliance, cost, customer service and safety standards are met
- Review and approval RCE and subsequent supervision to ensure goals are met.
- Budgetary management and control.
- Personnel development and utilization.
- Interface and exchange with other groups working on related activities.
- Meeting or exceeding all impact goals.
