Responsibilities

• The responsibilities of the Systems and Infrastructure Engineer will differ over two distinct phases of the project, as follows.

Pre-Revenue Service - Support the design and construction process and mobilization for operations:

• Participate in the design development for the system by reviewing and commenting on engineering drawings and specifications. The emphasis of this engineering work is to improve the reliability and maintainability of all equipment and infrastructure.
• Evaluate alternative designs to optimize life-cycle costs and improve long-term performance
• Advise systems designers and architects on design criteria, the selection of materials, and interfaces between system elements.
• Participate in the recruitment, hiring and training of the maintenance workforce
• Develop plans and procedures for systems and infrastructure maintenance
• Support the testing and commissioning of systems and infrastructure including development of the test plans and System Performance Demonstration plan.
• Review of Maintenance Manuals, spares holdings and spares management plans.

Revenue Service Period (beginning late 2015) – Support the Infrastructure and Systems Maintenance Department as follows

• Plan and schedule maintenance activities for track, bridges, signals, communications and train control systems.
• Maintain system configuration records.
• Manage consulting contracts for bridge inspections and modifications and repairs to the track, signal, communication and electrical systems.
• Manage service and maintenance contracts for the Operations Control Center.
• Provide engineering support in the evaluation of alternative suppliers for materials and services.
• Analyze failures and develop of programs to improve infrastructure and equipment performance.
• Coordinate between maintenance personnel and operating personnel when track outages are necessary to perform maintenance tasks.
• Coordinate third party activities occurring on or adjacent to the Commuter Rail Network

Basic Job Requirements

• At least 5 years’ experience in the construction, operation and/or maintenance of one of the following types of systems:
• Track and Right of Way
• Bridge Maintenance
• Train Control and Signal Systems for passenger rail
• Communications Systems for passenger rail
• Some experience working on around all of the above types of system
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or another field related to the above systems
• Experience in management, project management or contract management preferred
• Understand FRA regulations pertaining to the above systems preferred including but not limited to FRA part 213,214,236,237 etc.
