Job Description
- Provide project leadership, oversight, and management for the EPCM install of a new backfill plant. Ensure design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the new Backfill Plant meets the Mine and Barrick operating requirements and follows standard engineering practices.
Experience:
- Experience with operations, construction, and project management required.
- Experience with project management systems and procedures required.
- Professional Engineer (Nevada) designation preferred.
- Surface (civil, construction, structural steel, concrete, etc) experience required.
- Underground experience (construction, structural steel, rock mechanics, concrete, etc.) preferred.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Experience with contractors and contract management required.
- Competence in MS Office Tools required.
- Experience with project or scheduling software required.
- Ability to use Vulcan and AutoCAD preferred.
Leadership Skills:
- Ability to lead a large project and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team in an assertive manner is absolutely essential.
- Effective oral and communication skills are required.
Duties/Responsibilities
An employee in this position is responsible for the following:
- Manage engineering consultants doing detailed engineering, design, and costing of a new backfill plant (contract already awarded).
- Provide design input to engineering consultants to ensure designs meet operating and permitting requirements.
- Interface with current staff and departments to get customer input and support of designs.
- Interface with environmental department to ensure all permitting is in place so that there are no delays to plant construction, commissioning, and operation.
- Monitor and manage the schedule for plant detailed design to ensure the project meets budgetary target for commissioning in the 3rd quarter of 2011.
- After engineering design is complete, develop scope for EPCM install of system, and oversee tender and award activities.
- Provide oversight and management of contractor chosen for procurement, install, and commissioning of the new backfill plant.
- Provide oversight and management of any subcontractor used for procurement, install, and commissioning of the new backfill plant.
- Ensure that correct procedures are followed regarding safety and environmental objectives. Ensure the project is carried out in a manner that meets Barrick Vision and Values and conforms to Barrick Contractor Management protocols.
Ensure:
- Meet or improve upon project completion date.
- Develop project budget and spending timeline.
- Stay within or improve upon project budget.
- Monitor the control budget and provide input to staff for annual budgets and quarterly projections.
- Provide oversight of procurement, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure project scope is realistic and managed.
- Ensure team is effective.
- Meet safety and environmental targets.
- Administer contractual agreement, including document control, approval procedures, scope change procedures, safety, etc.
- Be proactive to avoid problems that may impact schedule or budget.
- Benefits are quantified.
- Supervise Barrick Contractor Representatives who will supervise the surface and underground system installations and commissioning (likely one surface area representative, and one underground area representative).
Basic Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or related engineering degree required.
- Equivalent experience in other fields considered.
