Senior Geologist

Description:

Design Group Energy Division has partnered with a well-respected Canadian oil and gas producer with properties in Western Canada and the United States in their quest to secure a Senior Geologist.

We seek a confident and dynamic Senior Geologist with 10 or more years of experience to Develop and Explore within their SE SK asset.  Well developed knowledge within the Williston Basin is a must have.

This is a full-time position located in our Calgary office and reports directly to the SE Saskatchewan Asset Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare regional assessments and detailed reservoir mapping and cross sections to provide a framework and understanding of local geology.
  • Provide expertise and leadership in reservoir development, optimization and depletion plans for a variety of oil reservoirs.
  • Evaluate and support recommendations for land acquisitions and or property acquisitions/divestments.
  • Manage yearly land expiries as required.
  • A strong business acumen that can participate in tactical planning meetings as well as quickly filter opportunities based on strategic fit, materiality and economic parameters is required.
  • Manage wellsite geological operations and/or take well calls from the wellsite geologist.  Prepare logging and coring programs for exploratory wells.
  • Share technical expertise and learnings with peers and across disciplines.  Mentor junior and intermediate staff.
  • Create and maintain a network of industry professionals and service providers to keep abreast of new technologies and developments in the regions of interest.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of exploitation and exploration experience and a registered APEGGA member.
  • Solid understanding of the geology of the Williston Basin, including knowledge of stratigraphy, structure, and trapping mechanisms for various conventional and unconventional resource play types.
  • Experience in reservoir characterization, simulation, waterfloods and reservoir management.
  • The ability to assimilate key information and incorporate the knowledge of other team disciplines such as Land, Geophysics and Engineering in identifying, assessing and executing opportunities.  Ability to identify and manage key risks associated with the plays.
  • Strong mapping and log analysis skills, and an understanding of DST charts and production data.
  • Ability to work with a variety of technical digital platforms (e.g. Accumap, GeoScout, Petrel etc).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with an appreciation for team work and an ability to provide fresh approaches to existing plays.
  • Ability to foster strong internal and external relationships and driven to deliver value to the Team through solid technical recommendations.
  • Experience with multi-frac horizontal wells would be an asset.
