General Summary

  • The Group Counsel provides a wide range of legal services and advice to the company and is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the Group.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Works closely with Regional management and General Counsel to identify and legal risks related to operations.
  • Responsible for managing the Group’s outside counsel in litigation and mediation.
  • Consult with management, tax experts, environmental department and accountants regarding Group operational issues.
  • Participates and advises regional management in legal actions.
  • Prepare, examine and negotiate contractual agreements including leases, licenses and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Evaluate and negotiate contractual issues and disputes.
  • Advise management and corporate departments on legal issues related to department matters.
  • Keep informed of industry-specific regulations and ensure that appropriate risk management strategies are in place.
  • Review and negotiates Group contracts and advises management about contract legal risks.

Education

  • A juris doctorate (JD) and admission into applicable state bar is required.  California State Bar license is desirable.
  • Work Experience
  • Experience in the areas of litigation, contracts, real estate, human resources, environmental law and mergers and acquisitions.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Knowledge of construction concepts, practices, and procedures is required.
