Job Description
- [Company] Mining & Metals business performs EPCM services for many of the world’s leading mining companies and is executing world-class projects on five continents. Due to continued growth, our TNT business has an exciting opportunity for dynamic and innovative individuals to fill the role of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Supervisor at an open-pit copper mine site in the western United States.
- Reporting to the Project Manager, the site based HSSE Supervisor will be responsible for the leadership and management of HSSE activities on site, including setting expectations, influencing, challenging and overall coordination. Responsibilities
- Preparing and maintaining the project HSSE execution plan and associated procedures, reflecting the scope of work and risk profile.
- Providing support, guidance and leadership to the project HSSE team, contractor management, supervision and craft.
- Maintaining the effectiveness and continued development of the HSSE management system, as well as application to the project.
- Ensuring project compliance to federal laws including the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
- Implementing an assurance strategy to monitor compliance against the project HSSE execution plan and HSSE procedures.
- Being aware of all current occupational HSSE legislation, codes of practices and procedures to be operated within TNT scope of work.
- Maintaining a professional relationship with MSHA and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to ensure essential cooperative atmosphere for continuous improvement of all matters related to safety & health of the workforce.
- Ensuring an adequate interface with relevant stakeholders (such as subcontractors, client, enforcing authorities and local communities) in matters related to HSSE.
- Examining HSSE trends and propose actions to prevent recurrence of incidents, accidents, and near-misses.
- Highlighting HSSE issues, making recommendations and/or issue instructions (based on reports, audits, and incident analysis) that will be implemented to enhance HSSE performance.
- Ensuring development and maintenance of MSHA training programs as per MSHA requirements and ensuring maintenance of the site HSSE orientation program.
- Participating in, and facilitating as required, root cause analysis of major incidents.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years’ experience of heavy construction projects, with a minimum 5 years’ experience in the mining industry and 3 years’ experience in a supervisory HSSE position.
- Recognized safety certification by accredited association.
- Formal education and training in Health, Safety, Environment and Risk Management.
- Working knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations, as well as MSHA training certification is a strong asset.
- Understanding and ability to appropriately apply mine safety and health procedures, requirements, regulations and policies related to specialized expertise.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in emergency response, security management occupational health, investigation, risk management, and behavioral based safety is a strong asset.
