Construction Engineer II

Job Description

• Monitors and inspects construction operations and contractors to ensure compliance with design documents
• Controls, distributes and files drawings, specifications and other design documents
• Maintains liaison with the design engineer to schedule and coordinate the release of construction design documents in support of the construction schedule
• Provides marked-up drawings and information required for the preparation of as-built drawings
• Checks, logs, and processes vendor and shop drawings
• Technically evaluates proposed vendors and contractors for project suitability
• Prepares work packages and work scopes for the preparation of requisitions for contracted services
• Technically evaluates quotes and bids from contractors and suppliers
• Conducts pre-bid and pre-award meetings with the assistance of procurement personnel
• Monitors the performance of contractors to ensure conformance with project quality, safety, security, and specification requirements
• Maintains liaison among the contractor, the company and the design engineer
• Evaluates change requests and interfaces with the contract administrator for the initiation and development of contract modifications
• Obtains A/E approval of contractor/subcontractor shop drawings
• Investigates and resolves engineering and technical-related problems
• Remains knowledgeable of safety policies and procedures and performs assigned duties in a safe manner and, while supervising others, has responsibility for their safety and ensures that they comply with established safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits
• Assists construction engineers and contractors in the preparation of field change requests and as-built documents by producing field sketches and drawings
• Performs liaison functions between contractor and engineers
• Assists construction engineers by gathering information pertaining to field construction problems and providing input for resolution
• Maintains files of various construction engineering documents such as design change notices, deviation reports, information clarification reports, and as-built documents
• Under general supervision of a construction engineer or a survey party chief, but with latitude for exercising independent judgment, performs various assignments of a construction engineering or field engineering support nature, both technical and clerical
• Assists in several engineering disciplines, if required
• Coordinates the work of lower-level aides and clerks
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements

• Experience on a chemical site and experience with DuPont systems is preferred.
• A degree is not required. Must be competent with the MS suite of software. Experience with scheduling software is preferred.
