Safety Coordinator

Job Description:

  • Under direction, performs a variety of administrative tasks for one or more management positions. Conducts field training with new hires and other field employees.
  • Performs field inspections and BBS observations monthly. Presents and evaluates specialized training in a subject matter area.  Additionally develops, presents and evaluates training courses and performs related duties as required.
  • Assists in the scheduling and placement of field crews with communication to the Operations Manager.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: This position requires a highly motivated person with pride and passion for excellence. The ability to be flexible in their work schedule (hours and shifts worked as needed). The ability to be a self-starter, a desire to improve and train employees in a positive and safe manner. Able to be a team player and adapt to changes quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • Composes correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents. Scheduling of appointments and coordinating meetings. 
  • Maintains and controls confidential employee or departmental files (i.e. D.O.T MSHA, OSHA).
  • Develops and maintains computerized spreadsheets and databases to enter information and generate reports. May produce, revise, or refine formal presentation materials, using presentation software. Coordinates and keeps records of safety training.
  • Provides on-site and classroom training to staff on safety topics such as driving safety, personal protective equipment, lifting/back safety, safety practices policies, accident prevention techniques, and accident reporting.
  • Field inspections and BBS Observations.
  • Scheduling of crews and placement.
  • Training of new hires in the field.
  • Travel as needed.

Knowledge Of:

  • Principles and practices of training techniques; basic principles of risk management; techniques of accident prevention; laws and regulations applicable to employee safety and occupational health (i.e. OSHA and MSHA, or another state's equivalent) principles, practices, methods of safety. 

Ability To:

  • Perform assigned duties with minimum supervision; identify problems and recommend solutions; interpret and apply policies and procedures within limits of authority; use tact and discretion; interact effectively with supervisors and employees. Learn and adapt to new technology as it relates to office practices and procedures; maintain confidentiality of information; pay attention to detail; work effectively despite interruptions; plan, organize, and prioritize work; proofread documents and other work. Plan and present safety training programs and use persuasion to obtain compliance and cooperation. 
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
