Mineral Resources Manager

Applications are invited from suitable applicants for the position of Mineral Resources Manager, whose main responsibility would be to lead and manage the complete mineral resource management cycle, incorporating the professional disciplines of geology, resource estimation and geostatistics, mine planning, environmental management and risks associated with developing and extracting of mineral resources by ensuring that the geological environment is understood to determine factors controlling mineralization (quality and footprint) as the foundation for estimation to the required confidence levels.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Std 10 / N3 or relevant National NQF level qualification
  • BSc (Honours) degree in Geology or Mining Geology, Survey, Mining or related science
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in mineral resources management function
  • Code EB /8 driver’s license
  • Computer literate

The Following Qualifications & Experience will be advantageous:

  • Experience in the mining industry, preferably in explorations and mining deposits,
  • Registered with an appropriate professional body,
  • Experience in open pit production methods will be a strong advantage,
  • Sound knowledge of the environmental management issues and risks associated with the mining industry,
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in a management position will be an added advantage.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Interprets operational objectives to plan, implement and manage Resource Generation/Exploration programmes, Estimation, Mine Support, Mine Planning and Production Reconciliation functions according to Mine performance and delivery parameters.
  • Provides required Mineral Resource information for planning , evaluation and profit share requirements
  • Manage and control the allocation of funds to ensure adherence to approved budgeted expenditure
  • Identifies and interprets the impact of geological information on the Mine’s production targets
  • Manages Survey and Sampling programmes to increase continuously the confidence level inherent in the Mine ore reserve estimate in a systematic manner
  • Ensures adherence to company’s environmental management programme and objectives are implemented according to statutory legislation and the Mine Strategic Management Plan
  • Manages and monitor adherence to Safety programme goals and objectives
  • Manage resource allocation to ensure effective staffing levels and utilization according to organisational needs.
  • Builds relationships across the Company pipeline by sharing business information and knowledge,
  • Manages subordinates key performance areas by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations to achieve the departmental or sectional objectives.

Skills Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of mineral resources management processes, including generation and geological exploration, resource evaluation, mine planning and production reconciliation,
  • Ability to communicate effectively at corporate executive level,
  • Strong, proven leadership qualities and strategic thinking to can articulate the business strategy
  • Ability to lead a team of highly qualified professionals
  • Strong Organisational skills
