Automation Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

  • To perform highly technical maintenance work in order to maintain structures, grounds, heating systems, air conditioning systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, machines, motors, plumbing, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Typical duties for this position are: setting up, maintaining and debugging automated CNC, PLC, and/or computer controlled equipment or processes, performing diagnostic procedures and testing to determine and resolve equipment or process problems, performing diagnostics down to circuit board level, with an understanding of solid state power supplies, UPS systems, software, and/or ladder logic.  Uses engineering drawings, blueprints, diagrams, layouts, written and verbal instructions to make repairs and/or to perform routine and preventative maintenance.  Installs branch circuits, conduit, switches, starters, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic controls.  Repairs and rebuilds all types of machinery and equipment including hydraulic pumps, electrical motors, gas engines, mechanical and electrical equipment, cranes, hoists, tools, and fixtures.  Welds materials as needed for repairs and maintenance.  Utilizes forklifts, cranes, manlifts, and other equipment to perform duties.

Qualifications

  • Works under minimal supervision and in accordance with industry, trade, and engineering standards, as well as, within standard shop manufacturing, safety and housekeeping practices.  Must have ability to communicate orally and in writing.  Work varies from working at ground level to working in, on top of, and around machines and equipment that may be at a height of more than 6 feet from the floor.  Knowledge of mathematics, to include geometry, to determine equipment setup and operating tolerances, conformance to specifications and calculating electrical loads is required.  Must understand programming and the program interface with the equipment operation.  Requires ability to use micrometers, verniers, scales, protractors, recorders, and other instruments and tools. Must have a high school diploma with additional specialized training in basic electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics and five years of demonstrated on-the-job training. An AS degree in Maintenance would be a plus.
