Principal Mechanical Engineer

A Principal Mechanical Engineer with a strong mechanical engineering background is sought to join a highly successful SME that design, develop and build a unique product range for hostile environments. The Principal Mechanical Engineer position reports into the Chief Engineer – the engineering department consists of 8 people, which is a mix of Mechanical Design / Draughtspersons, Electrical Design / Draughtspersons, BOM Engineer and a Technical Author.

Key responsibilities of the position will include:
• To take a leading role in the design, development, test and build of unique products used within hostile engineering environments.
• Providing some guidance to Mechanical Design Engineers / Draughtspersons on a project by project basis.
• Some design engineering / draughting activities using Inventor and AutoCAD.

To be successful you will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a proven engineering design and development background. Any exposure to the design, development and build of medium to heavy engineered products used within hostile environments (off road vehicles, construction machinery, mining equipment, rail vehicles etc…). Their products involve pneumatic and hydraulic systems / diesel engines and transmissions / gearboxes – exposure to this would be advantageous but is not essential. The company has a global client base so the role will include some international travel.

Salary and Package: Up to circa £38,000 plus 20% bonus, pension and other benefits.
