Geotechnical Engineer -Fly in/fly out

Our client is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for their fly in-fly out mining operation. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Geotechnical Engineer will play a key role in the safe operations of the underground mine.

More specific responsibilities include:

  • Exercise leadership in the implementation and continued updating of the mine's ground control management plan
  • Plan and direct ground support activities, including bolting patterns and shotcrete, for all types of ground conditions in the mine
  • Conduct appropriate testing and analysis of ground support in place
  • Develop and maintain ground support policies and procedures for mine operations
  • Provide input to short and long range mine planning
  • Develop blasting patterns and test different blasting products to reduce collateral damage
  • Assist with understanding and projecting operating costs

Requirements

  • Geotechnical Engineering degree-or a Mining or Geology degree, specializing in 'rock mechanics'
  • 5 years practical and related experience in underground mining operations
  • Willingness and ability to communicate effectively with miners and other underground personnel to anchor new concepts and procedures
  • Demonstrated record of safety leadership
  • Able to work a rotational schedule of 2 weeks in x 2 weeks out
