Entry Level Survey Technician

Education and experience required:

  • Associates required; BS preferred in Surveying
  • 0-2 years Surveying experience preferred
  • General summary of the position:
  • Assist on survey field crews as an entry level land survey technician
  • Perform office activities such as preliminary drafting, note keeping or related clerical tasks
  • Perform routine sub-professional land survey work using routine surveying practices and equipment
  • Work on land survey projects, operate instrumentation, clear brush, drive stakes, hold chains or rods, take simple notes, make minor sketches and cleans equipment as needed
  • Performs minor computations
  • Perform incidental clerical and custodial duties and may be responsible for the operation and upkeep of a survey vehicle
  • Responsible for utilizing various surveying programs to gather, retrieve and interpret important data
  • Perform assignments under the direction of a supervisor and project technical staff

Skills and abilities required:

  • Familiarity with GPS devices, survey and drafting technologies, data collectors and/or Total Station preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 40 HR Hazwoper certification
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment and possession of sufficient physical stamina to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, extreme heat and rainfall
  • Ability to learn to use surveying instruments, equipment, practices and procedures
