Product Engineer - Simplex

Job Description

• We are currently adding a Product Engineer to our Simplex team at our new Westmont, IL facility. Since 1899, SIMPLEX (an [Company] company) has manufactured innovative positioning and lifting products. We specialize in mechanical jacks & hydraulic high pressure, high force equipment up to 1500 tons.
• The Product Engineer will collaborate with a multi-faceted design team to create new high force lifting and tool products. The product engineer will proactively look for opportunities to create new designs to improve on/replace existing technologies that will provide potential for a competitive edge of [Company] products in the market place. The engineer will accomplish these goals by combining a creative perspective and approach with existing applicable product related designs and engineering principles. The product engineer will be a self-motivated initiator who can work independently, as well as contribute and work in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop new lifting and high force tool platforms.
• Research and analyze data (such as customer design requirements, specifications, standards, manuals) to establish concept, feasibility, and applicability of product design.
• Perform product life cycle failure analysis and implement corrective action as required.
• Maintain and update engineering documentation through ECO process and 3D modeling.
• Address and resolve production and customer problems related to product design.
• Review new products to insure they meet expectations before release. Communicate existing design issues to product development project manager.
• Responsible for quality improvement and cost reduction of assigned products. Share responsibility meeting departmental cost reduction goals.
• Responsible for direction of activities and functions related to product design for cost, quality and delivery.
• Maintain positive working relationship with operations team members.
• Effectively communicate with customers, distributors and sales personnel.
• Other duties which generally require independent, self-directed activity as may be required or assigned.

Required Skills

• Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field or equivalent related engineering experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of product development/design experience.
• Strong background in hydraulics strongly preferred.
• Ability to manage concurrent projects independently in a team environment.
• Strong organizational, written, oral and professional skills.
• Computer skills with Microsoft Office.  Working knowledge of Pro-E required.
• Understanding of basic hydraulics with ability to apply knowledge to product design.
