Financial Controller

A junior gold producer is looking for a qualified chartered accountant for its flagship operation.

Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Finance & Administration, and acting as his 2IC, the financial controller will be responsible for the effective management and provision of financial and management accounting in accordance with the requirements of a TSX listed company.

Role

• Completion of monthly group financial accounts with supporting analysis for management and Board
• Prepare statutory reports as required
• Planning, implementing and overseeing the local company audit process and managing the relationship with external auditors
• Supervise the completion of local company statutory accounts
• Completion of local entity management accounts with supporting analysis for management and Board
• Planning, implementing and overseeing the local company reporting process
• Supervise the completion of the annual budget and interim forecasts/cashflows
• Provide group wide leadership in all technical accounting guidance
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies across the group
• Awareness of commercial issues and their impact on accounting
• Planning, managing and enhancing the finance function to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
• Management and development of local finance team to ensure accounting and controls in the following areas are accurate and robust: accounts payable, payroll, cash control, gold sales, prepayments and accruals, intra group transactions and recharges to group subsidiaries, month end reporting packs.
• Perform related adhoc tasks as requested by the Finance Manager

Experience and Skill Set Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related degree field with CA designation
• Ten years of relevant experience with five in a supervisory role
• Practical accounting experience within a mining or natural resources company
• Both financial and management accounting technical skills essential
• Computer literate, excellent excel skills
• Capable of interpreting complex laws, rules, regulations, policies and guidelines
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Preference will be shown to candidates who have previously worked in Africa or in similarly challenging environments
