Mining Superintendent

A Mining Superintendent is required by a well known industry leader and international mining company, at one of their leading operations in Southern Africa.

The position requires good leadership abilities with a good apprehension to manage the Open Cast Production Mining Operations in order to meet departmental objectives.

Role

Monthly Planning:

• Participate in and contribute to weekly mine planning meetings to inform pit planning needs and priorities (e.g. optimisation of production circuits).
• Participate in and contribute to daily production meetings to discuss previous day's activities, current priorities and needs, and relevant incident reporting up the line.
• Plan the daily sequence of production and related activities so that the mine plan is achieved.
• Anticipate production problems and constraints and plan to overcome identified problems.
• Constantly review the production achieved against plans and targets and deploy resources appropriately to make up any under production.

Contractor Management:

• Liaises with contractor managers to ensure that they comply to the correct sequencing following current mining plans and corrects deviations as they occur.
• Co-ordinates the production cycle between the various contractors.
• Ensures that the contractors schedule equipment maintenance to least affect production.
• Ensures that contractors are appropriately training staff.
• Ensure appropriate performance management of line resources and contractors through performance management or monitoring in terms of service level agreements/contracts.
• Divert production equipment and/or materials to meet requested non-production project needs and requirements without compromising production targets and priorities.
• Liaise with Treatment Management to ensure appropriate material is being supplied for processing.

Explosives Management:

• Manage the activities of direct subordinate which involves initiating a safe blasting sequence.
• Ensures that contractors fill the holes appropriately and that they are stemmed to standard.

Loading and Hauling:

• Ensure the correct allocation of truck to the appropriate loader.
• Ensure the haul road is kept in prime condition to optimise circuit times.
• Analyses circuit times and load capacities to ensure optimal use of haul trucks.
• Provide assistance in implementing and assuring project work meets quality requirements.
• Sign off Capital Project.

Mining Superintendent Experience and Skill Set Requirements

• A relevant Mining Engineering degree or diploma.
• 5 years experience in a Open Cast Production and Mining Environment.
