General Manager

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced General Manager with vision and the ability to lead organizational cultural change.  Become a key member of this international gold mining company with 26 operating mines across 5 continents.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager will be responsible for:

• The efficient, safe and secure management of the entire operation.
• Setting direction, leading development and creating vision.
• Ensuring operational compliance with global corporate standards and systems.
• The coordination and implementation of strategic plans aligned with the overall global and regional strategy to ensure long-term profitability and growth.
• Directing the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets and plans to provide management guidelines, goals and contribute to the region’s financial plan.
• Ensuring each department develops and operates within company management operating systems and leading continuous improvement strategies.
• Ensuring adherence to and remaining up to date with all relevant international, regional and local laws, statutes and regulations, and global corporate policies and procedures.
• Developing, promoting and maintaining a very high level of safe, secure and healthy working conditions for all staff through adherence to legislation, rules and regulations.
• Developing and maintaining a departmental structure that adheres to organisational framework policy and enables teamwork and personal development, while focusing on the achievement of results that satisfy property and regional production, service and quality objectives.

Skills and Experience

• An absolute commitment to safety, security and company values.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Mining, Geological, Civil or Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent.
• A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a similar senior management role.
• A current Mine Manager’s Certificate.
• Post graduate studies in business will be highly regarded.
• Prior experience with overall responsibility for an opencast mining operation preferred.
• Strong conceptual thinking ability and decisiveness in sometimes difficult circumstances.
• Very strong commercial acumen.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead large workforce cultural change.
• Previous experience working within the African mining industry.
