Machine Learning Researcher

Role Summary/Purpose:

• As a machine learning researcher, you will work in a multidisciplinary team to develop algorithms and software for various industrial applications. One primary application area is Prognostics & Health Management (PHM).

Essential Responsibilities

• Interfaces with customers, acquires data and requirements, applies expertise to create solutions from customer data and knowledge, manages projects, operates on multiple projects involving diverse teams, supports proposals to external agencies (DARPA,DHS, DOE etc.), aspires to grow PHM expertise through participation in external communities and publications

You will:

• Provide technical expertise execution to design of algorithms/solutions, particularly for PHM applications (data preprocessing, feature extraction, anomaly detection, diagnostics, prognostics etc.) to solve industrial problems at [Company]
• Explore, determine & develop technical approaches to be used and apply them on major challenges
• Interface closely with [Company] Business counterparts to understand/define requirements, domain knowledge/models, and data needs.
• Effectively communicate technical analyses and results.
• Propose Invent innovative technology solutions for various [Company] applications
• Support proposals to respond to external funding opportunities

Qualifications/Requirements:  

• Doctorate degree in Computer Science or equivalent engineering field with expertise in machine learning & PHM
• Must have experience in the design and prototyping of PHM algorithms
• Demonstrated foundation in theories underlying machine learning techniques
• Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge to solve industrial problems
• Extended experience in the use of Matlab or other major programming language/packages for machine learning problems.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
• Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
• Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.

Desired Characteristics           

• At least 3 years of experience in the design and prototyping of PHM algorithms
• Industrial experience in development of PHM algorithms/systems
• Experience with developing PHM applications using approaches in machine learning, statistics, information mining and other disciplines
• Programming skills in high level languages like Java, .NET, Hadoop and Cloud computing
• Knowledgeable with relational databases & SQL
• Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated reputation including publications
• Excellent teamwork and customer focus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to take initiative and deliver tangible results under deadlines
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction
• Flexibility of working across all functions/levels as part of a team.
