Job Summary: 

  • We are seeking a Project Estimator for our North American Operation located in the Seven Fields, PA.  Under general direction, the Project Estimator is  responsible for determining all costs and pricing/financial returns associated with the preparation of project authorization requests (PAR) for long term steel mill service contracts as well as authority for investments (AFI) equipment justifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Participates in establishment of bases for production, costs and revenues.
  • Identifies all equipment and activities required, based on customer and Operations Department specifications.
  • Determines all volumes of materials for consideration from customer production data.
  • Prepares all detailed equipment operating hour schedules by activity.
  • Determines contract manning requirements, per activity, based on evaluation of operating hours, customer shift coverage requirements, tonnages and input from HR and Operations Departments.
  • Prepares labor and fringe cost schedules, by activity, from acquired information from HR Department regarding labor wage and fringe benefits rates.
  • Prepares all operating supplies, repairs, and maintenance schedules, by activity, utilizing information from all sources and related company departments.
  • Prepares capital equipment schedules based on capital equipment, erection, freight, and other related costs acquired from departments.
  • Prepares tax and book depreciation schedules, by activity, for capital equipment investment.
  • Prepares all local and state tax schedules, all overhead schedules, and all cost summary schedules, by activity.
  • Prepares all discounted cash flow schedules, all revenue, and all pricing schedules at the direction of Marketing, Operations, and Division Management.
  • Accumulates all other necessary related information from departments for completion of the total PAR package.
  • Participates in PAR review meetings for discussion and revision of cost schedules, financial returns, gross & operating profits, and projected investments.
  • Actively discusses with Corporate Financial Analyst all questions related to the PAR prior to Corporate approval.
  • Studies various reports for accumulation of required information necessary for the preparation of post audits. Prepares post audits and review results with related company departments.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.
  • Four plus years industry experience in engineering or finance.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel to various Metals locations - Up to 20% travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in steel mill and/or aggregate products setting.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Ability to deal professionally with customers and coworkers

Technical Skills

  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills.
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Strong understanding of Metals Products and services.

  • Ability to set goals and objectives
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize
