Director, Operations Accounting

Function

  • Supervises & reviews asset retirement obligations, revenue recognition, inventory, mine development and revenue accounting and other operational accounting including all coal reserve-related leases and agreements.
  • Ensures timely month-end close with SOX-compliant internal controls in assigned areas. This includes account reconciliations and analytical review of balance sheet and income statement balances in area of responsibility.
  • Ensures timely submission of exhibits and/or input required for budgets, forecasts, 10Q analytical, etc. to Financial and Operations Analysis teams and the Director, Financial Reporting.
  • Reviews coal sales and purchase agreements to identify opportunities to optimize language related to pricing, escalation and quality adjustments and payment terms.
  • Directs or performs acquisition due diligence related work aimed at identifying risks, issues and opportunities associated with operations related agreements, activities and liabilities.
  • Reviews/prepares footnote support and audit schedules in assigned areas for SEC reporting and external auditors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley Act and experience in the execution of programs to meet those requirements.
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to develop a team of financial professionals and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical, organizational, prioritization and time management skills with an eye for detail.
  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Expert proficiency in mainstream ERP applications
  • 8-10 years of financial analysis experience, specifically in the areas of fixed assets, revenue recognition, and/or mineral rights.
  • 5-7 years of experience supervising accounting staff
  • Public accounting experience
