Principal Process/Specialty Engineer (Iron Ore Beneficiation)

Job Description

  • Under administrative direction, makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activities. Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies, requiring skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues. At this level, individuals will have demonstrated creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, determining and organizing program objectives and requirements, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
  • This requisition requires competency in iron ore beneficiation processes related to grinding, magnetic separation, pelletizing and tailings disposal with the following project responsibilities:
  • Maintains overall supervision and execution of the process design for the company's projects.
  • Evaluates and selects overall processing schemes and develops new processes or processing schemes as required.
  • Establishes process performance specifications for all items of process equipment.
  • Reviews and approves selection of process equipment.
  • Prepares process and mechanical flow diagrams to establish fluid flow circuits and process controls.
  • Establishes process performance guarantees including negotiation with client and licensor. Responsible for operability and safety of process plant.
  • Assists in commissioning and startup of process plant.
  • Conducts plant performance test runs.
  • Maintains knowledge of safety policies and procedures and performs assigned duties in a safe manner, and, if supervising others, has responsibility for the safety of those being supervised and ensures they comply with established safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits.

Basic Job Requirements

  • BS in Metallurgical, Chemical Process or Mechanical Engineering. 16+ years of industry experience in Iron Ore beneficiation, pelletizing and tailings disposal. Ability to provide general supervision. Proven commitment to the coaching and training of co-workers and subordinates, including on-the-job opportunities, and/or sharing of technical or experiential knowledge. Presentation skills, technical writing skills, customer relations, negotiating, and/or contracts training are a plus. Professional registration is required consistent with requirements of office or home base regulations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning and education through participation in internal and/or external training opportunities. Management and/or supervisory skills training (can include on-the-job training as well as formal classroom or online training). Professional certification is a plus in locations where not required by office or home base regulations.
