Chem Lab COOP - DGC (Summer, 2012)

Job Description

• Applicable Pay Rate: $20.45 / hour. Primary job responsibility will be to assist the chem lab staff by performing chemical analyses of gases, liquids, and solids at various stages in the plant's operations.
• Benefits: On-site medical services. Exercise facility available. Reimbursement for cooperative course credit fees up to 2 credit hours.
• Relocation: Mileage for relocation at a rate of $.23/mile. Payment for rental of trailer or truck, for movement of household goods, up to a maximum of $500. Reimbursement for meals while enroute. Temporary lodging up to a maximum of 5 days to locate living quarters. Payment of deposits and expenses for connecting utilities. This amount must be refunded at the conclusion of the Cooperative Education term.

Required Skills

• Requires continuous standing, reaching above and below shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer; frequent walking, lifting or carrying up to 10 pounds; occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, use of tools and foot controls, turning valves, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds including assisted lifts over 50 pounds. This job requires the ability to read, write, perform arithmetic, weigh and measure, analyze data and reports, conduct research, present information to others, and work under pressure. 
• Requires finger dexterity, good color vision, hearing, ability to speak and perform close work. Over 50% of the incumbent’s day is performed indoors at a laboratory bench, but on occasion, will be required to pick up field samples in the plant. Works continuously with chemicals and operates laboratory instrumentation; exposed occasionally to dirt, dust, extreme heat, cold, and poor ventilation. The incumbent will be expected to work a 12-hour rotating shift.

Required Experience

• This position requires completion of a minimum of two years in a chemistry curriculum.
