Draftsperson

Job Description

• This position provides drafting and field drawing verification services for the mechanical and civil engineers to meet the project design and engineering requirements of the department. This position performs CAD-based drafting, basic CAD program and menu customization, and is familiar or can become familiar with applicable drafting standards, symbols, methodology, and procedures. This position reports to the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Supervisor.

Required Skills

• Requires continuous sitting and use of computer/keyboard, occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, reaching above and below shoulder level, crawling, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds, and use of tools. Requires good finger dexterity, ability to perform close work, good hearing and color vision and the ability to speak. Requires the ability to analyze data, conduct research, implement recommendations, develop plans and goals, present information to others and work under pressure of time constraints. Over 50 percent of the day is spent in an office environment. Exposed occasionally to dirt, dust, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, confined areas and working at heights up to 400 feet. May also require working in high climbing areas on grating, ladders, or areas requiring the use of safety equipment; and may involve work in confined spaces to inspect and measure boilers, tanks, etc. Equipment operated includes personal computer, plotters, blueline, and copier machines.

Required Experience

• This position requires mathematical skills at a level acquired through completion of a high school diploma. In addition, a working knowledge of layouts and drafting in engineering disciplines and familiarity with standards, codes, regulations, procedures, and expertise in applying drafting techniques is required. This is acquired through completion of a two-year program in drafting or two years of equivalent drafting experience. Two to six years of drafting experience preferred, but not required. Must be proficient in CAD and in transforming sketches into practical working drawings. Familiarity with PC Desktop applications including Word and Excel is also required.
