SAP Basis Administrator

Summary:

• Is part of a team responsible for the support and administration of all SAP Basis activities and implementations.  Provides technical support for all requirements in the planning, coordination, programming, configuration, and implementation of new installations, upgrades, or changes to SAP Systems, and Oracle Database Systems.  Ensures availability and stable performance of the SAP R/3, and Oracle environments through performance monitoring and tuning.  Performs capacity planning, workload modeling, and prediction analysis.  Ensures maintenance and integration of all SAP, Unix, and supporting systems.  Plans and implements software upgrades ensuring change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed.  Is able to work productively in an environment containing the following technologies: SAP ECC 5, ECC 6 (Business Objects, BW, GRC, HCM, Enterprise Portals, R/3, Solution Manager), HP-UX 11, Linux, Oracle Enterprise 9x/10x, HP Servers and Storage Area Network, HP ServiceGuard Clustering, Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server, and TCP/IP Networking.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Plan, coordinate, and implement all changes to SAP systems.
• Assume the following principle accountabilities in SAP Basis:
• Performance and tuning analysis
• Capacity planning
• Systems support
• Systems planning
• Application support
• Root-Cause problem analysis and resolution tracking
• Software upgrades and planning
• Be responsible for oversight and management of the client strategy, development pipeline, and transport process.
• Participate as an active member in the SAP integration council to ensure all facets of business, functionality and technology are considered in testing prior to transport approval.
• Analyze, design, implement, test, debug, maintain, modify and document SAP technical environment to meet technical and business objectives.
• Plan and recommend strategies, purchases, and design of products, processes, or services necessary to support the development, staging, training, and production environments.
• Provide technical support to users, systems administrators, business and technical analysts, ABAP developers and IT project management.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Serve as a backup to other SAP Systems functions such as SAP Security, Hardware Management, Operating System Management, and Database Administration.
• Provide dissemination of knowledge and mentoring to facilitate cross training in the Basis module.
• Develop and document technical standards and procedures.
• Stay abreast of new technologies related to areas responsibility.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities; ensure the appropriate management is apprised of the operational status of issues and projects.
• Serve as a liaison to technical product and services vendors.
• Provide on-call support on a rotational basis.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

• SAP R/3 Application System – Proficiency in transport processes and Transport Management System.  Proficiency in SAP tuning and enhancement through the Basis module.  Proficiency with and understanding of the SAP application architecture and the Basis module.
• Unix Operating Systems – Proficiency in HP-UX and Linux, including paging and swapping, interprocess communication, device drivers, file systems concepts and facilities, memory management, printing, and shell scripting (C, Born, or Korn).
• RDBMS – Experience with Oracle.  Solid understanding of database concepts, SQL, and working knowledge of database operating environments and toolsets.
• SAN Environments – An understanding of SAN architectures, and volume replication technologies.
• Networking – Proficiency with TCP/IP and associated protocols.  Solid understanding of networking and distributed computing concepts, including routing and RPC.
• Ability to solve problems independently, quickly, and completely and to communicate and present to diverse types of audiences (management, teammates, users, vendors, and other technical staff.
• Ability to work productively either independently or in a collaborative team environment.
• Capable of effectively managing projects and problem resolution in a cross-functional environment.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

• 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
• 5+ years of analytical job experience in an Information Technology organization
• 4+ years of systems administration experience; 2 to 3 years of experience in Unix environments
• 2+ years of SAP R/3 Basis administration experience
• 1+ year of SAP R/3 Security administration experience
• 1+ year of Project Management experience, including planning, setup, management and reporting
