Senior Geologist

Our client is looking for a Senior Geologist to join their reputable mining company. The purpose of this role is to plan, administer and coordinate Geologic resources to meet the objectives of the mine as well as external reporting requirements on resources/reserves. The Senior Geologist will be reporting to the Superintendent of Engineering & Geology.

The Senior Geologist will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Collect, document and assess geological data within the mine, ensuring that all geological features in the mine are observed and recorded;
  • Ensure effective grade control in the mine; optimum ore recovery with minimal dilution by directing and monitoring of ore and rock according to the mining plan and cut-off grades;
  • Calculate and document daily grade and dilution rate for the mine, including computer generation of various reports for production and technical supervisors;
  • Provide assistance to operating and engineering staff in mine planning; indicating ore outlines, lithological contacts and structural features on plans and sections;
  • Oversee specialized projects requiring the application of geological knowledge;
  • Audit and analyze systems within the area of accountability to:
    • Achieve Zero Harm to employees, the business, the environment and the community.
    • Achieve/exceed production quality and quantity targets while maximizing economic resource recovery;
    • Achieve total product and unit cost, and capital expenditure targets.
  • Ensure safe behaviors' are exhibited by all team members. Coach member on consistently assessing and reducing risk and take corrective action when necessary to address noncompliance;
  • Meet objectives and comply with; safety plans, incident reporting process, policy/procedure reviews, MOC process, etc;
  • Support development of the Life of Mine production plan.  Ensure preparation of scheduled production forecasts;
  • Create, and maintain geologic models of the ore reserves;
  • Develop innovative opportunities to improve the efficiency of operations;
  • Ensure the technical group is delivering the desired service to the operation;
  • Expand the capability of the area of accountability, to achieve continuous improvement, while balancing the allocation of resources, meeting quantity and quality output requirements for the internal and/or external “Customers”;
  • Mentor and provide performance feedback to team members.   Coach and counsel employees on the standards of behavior, and take corrective actions as required including discipline;
  • Work collaboratively to assemble MRMR document consistent with NI 43-101 and SEC regulations;
  • Develop and recommend mining plans and ground support systems;
  • Contributes to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing, mentoring, and analysis support to the management team;
  • Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area specific, goals and objectives;

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • Professional Geologist registered in Nunavut (or with the capability to register).
  • >7 years of geological experience with at least 2 years in a senior role.
  • Experience working with aboriginal people, working in remote mining camps and developing individuals whose initial geology knowledge/skills are low is beneficial.
