Safety Specialist

Job Description

  • Implementation of safety policies at underground and surface locations.
  • Frequent job observations and safety audits with all employees.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, as well as company policy, by frequently inspecting work areas.
  • Participate in accident investigations and review to eliminate cause.
  • Assist in developing and implementing programs to reduce accidents and violations.
  • Conduct respirable dust sampling surveys to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Keep mine management updated on federal and state law.
  • Accompany state and federal inspectors during their inspections and ensure violations are abated in allowed time.
  • Frequent instruction of training classes for employees.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • WV UG miner’s certification required.
  • WV mine foreman certification or assistant mine foreman certification preferred.
  • MSHA certified in respirable dust sampling required.
  • MSHA Certified Instructor required.
  • Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state mining laws, policies, and procedures required.
  • Knowledge of mine ventilation, roof control/ground control, drainage, and other related areas required.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and Power Point required.
