Water Utilisation Manager

Large Water Catchment Management Institution has an exciting opportunity for a Water Utilisation Manager.

  • The successful applicant responsibilities will include but is not limited to ensuring access to water resource and/or benefits of its use to all citizens. 
  • Ensuring the development and implementation of a specific programme of action for water allocation redress. 
  • Ensuring that capacity development programmes within water allocation support the use of water to improve livelihoods and productive, responsible use of water by all users
  • Ensuring that capacity development programmes assist HDIs and the poor to participate equitably in the process of informing the allocation of water
  • Influencing regional and local planning in water stressed areas in order to encourage development that has smaller impacts on water resources.

Requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12 certificate
  • An Honours degree Hydrology or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • A valid drivers licence
  • Must be Computer literate
  • A minimum of 3 years management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of water resource management, applicable environmental legislation
  • Knowledge of the industries, urban development, agriculture, waste management and mining sectors
  • Knowledge of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998) and related policies, strategies and guidelines
  • An understanding of the principles of Integrated Water Resource Management
  • Working knowledge of the Water Services Act, the National Environmental Management Act
  • Experience in interpretation and operation of water resource models
  • Innovative thinking, negotiation, conflict management, problem-solving and networking skills
  • Knowledge of Human Resources and Financial Management policies
  • A clear understanding of transformation and service delivery in the Public Service
  • The willingness to travel and work abnormal hours when necessary.
