Corporate Safety Manager
Overall Job Purpose:
- To assist all operations with regulatory compliance efforts and provide guidance with implementing and sustaining the behavior based safety process. Coordinate safety improvement processes related to safety audits, risk management, health issues, contractor safety and internal standards. To provide operations with information and updates on state and federal regulations and other pertinent safety related issues.
Responsibilities Include:
- Support and assist efforts at all ACI facilities to prevent injuries, improve the safety process, and comply with regulatory requirements. These processes include, but are not limited to, Behavior Based Safety, Safety Improvement Process, Contractor Safety, Health issues and Safety Audits.
- Provide regulatory assistance and information to the operations and key managers on state and federal regulations.
- Provide assistance in the development and distribution of technical programs and systems that will benefit the facilities and provide cost benefit to the company.
- Conduct investigations and review injury, near miss and observation data to make recommendations for corrective action.
- Participate with Risk Management audits and assist with compliance efforts. Evaluate emergency preparedness and crisis communication programs.
- Coordinate programs related to Contractor Safety policies, training and procedures.
Required Education & Experience:
- BS in Safety or equivalent combination of education and /or experience.
- 5 years of experience in a safety-related position.
- 5 years of underground and/or surface experience at the coal mine level.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of MSHA and State regulations and compliance strategies.
- Experience in developing Safe Operating Procedures and Internal Safety Standards.
- Ability to conduct physical inspections in all mining environments.
- Experience in working with safety standards in the mining industry.
- Ability to interact with all levels of company employees, contractors and state and federal agencies.
- Ability to travel regularly to the operations.
- Proficient PC skills in Word and Excel
- Must be conscientious, self-motivated and a strong team player.
- Preferred Education & Experience:
- MS in Safety Sciences.
- 10 years’ experience in the mining industry.
- Supervisory experience.
- Position will report to: Director of Corporate Safety
