Nature and Scope of Position
The Castlemain Group, a leading consulting firm focused on the business and economic activities of BC First Nations, seeks a skilled and energetic analyst and writer to fill the role of Associate. This creative, ethical and results-oriented person must thrive in a fast-paced environment. The ability to balance multiple priorities is important and superior time management skills are essential. The candidate will be a skilled project manager who has displayed an ability and desire to drive a variety of initiatives forward.
At Castlemain, we combine the culture of a start-up with the experience of seasoned executives. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting all elements of Castlemain’s consulting and technology solutions activities, including research, report preparation, strategic communications, community consultation, customer service and training as well as other responsibilities. The individual will work with others (co-workers, subcontractors, clients etc…) on a daily basis and thus must be an effective and confident public communicator as well as an experienced team player.
This is a growth position in which the successful candidate will acquire substantial expertise in business practices across a number of domains.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supporting Castlemain’s senior executives across a variety of consulting and research projects in the fields of resources (mining, hydro, forestry), Public-Private-First Nations partnerships, community economic development, and land development and planning.
- Leadership in the creation, implementation and support for Castlemain’s proprietary technology solution across all clients. This will involve extensive work with clients and the creation of a training program for all users.
- Writing of research documents, website content, press releases, client communications materials and more, both for clients as well as Castle main corporate.
- Managing all Castlemain communications and website, including social media and the establishment of an online “voice” in the blogosphere/Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn.
- Enhancement of client relations across all areas of Castlemain business.
- Establishment of The Castlemain Customer Care process (alongside the Board).
- Establishment of The Castlemain Customer Feedback process (alongside the Board).
- Research focused on all facets of aboriginal / government / private sector interaction within Canada, including sponsored programs, effective organizations, applications for grant funding for clients and more.
General Responsibilities
- Work alongside clients in a professional, ethical manner.

- Demonstrate a willingness to roll up one’s sleeves and employ a “can do” attitude across all tasks.
- Communicate feedback, challenges and or methods for improvement in company practices.
- Take initiative on areas for improvement for clients or within the company.
- Monitor marketplace for appropriate business opportunities and new clients.
- Engage in quarterly employee reviews, monthly one-on-one meetings and weekly staff meetings.
- Become part of a relevant industry association and/or group in order to strengthen the firm’s brand and the individual’s professional network.
- Exhibit a willingness to travel to client sites on a consistent basis.
- Eventually to establish an annual budget and be prepared to reconcile any differences between forecasts and actual results.
- Establish a good working relationship with all Castlemain staff.
- Represent and promote the image of Castlemain in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree. Additional advanced degree or training in First Peoples, Law, Government, Public Affairs, Communications or Business desirable.
Experience
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated achievement in a professional field is required to apply for this position.
- Proficiencies
- Excellent command of the English Language.
- Superior analytical and communication skills, including the ability to research and write a variety of documentation and online content in areas from public policy to sales and marketing.
- Knowledge of and extensive experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and web related/social media content.
- Strong familiarity with Excel.
Position Expectations
- This is a full-time position. Given the nature and timing of activities and responsibilities, evening and weekend work may be required at times.
