Safety & Environmental Representative

About the Job

  • Conducts periodic assessments of Project work sites to ensure compliance with applicable Power Authority, federal, state and local environmental health and safety (EHS) regulations. Develops and conducts training as mandated by federal, state and local EHS regulations.
  • Ensures compliance for environmental regulations and OSHA for assigned programs. Asbestos Supervisor certification preferred.
  • Assists Safety Administrator with all aspects of OSHA Compliance Program and implementation of Safety Management Program.
  • Possesses ability to act as Environmental & Safety subject matter expert in absence of Safety Administrator & Environmental Scientist.

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of appropriate federal, state and regional environmental health and safety laws, regulations and standards.
  • Ideal candidate will be a Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist. Must have NYS Driver's License
  • Requires an understanding of safety aspects of electric generation and transmission nationally and the utility industry in New York State - must be able to analyze and make recommendations on environmental impacts on operational and maintenance tasks
  • Must be capable of managing numerous tasks, deadlines and regulatory submittals.
  • Requires ability to present technical information and complex EHS issues and solutions to lay people and regulators.
  • Must be self-motivated with a professional attitude.
  • Strong communication skills and computer skills required

Experience Required

A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in an industrial setting, preferably utilities. Requires an understanding of multiple science disciplines and technologies including chemistry and toxicology. Requires knowledge of federal, state and local regulations particularly OSHA/PESH.

This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following areas: safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering or environmental science or its equivalent. Master's Degree preferred.
