Corporate Health & Safety Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting O'Brien & Gere's Corporate Health and Safety Program including the safety of office personnel, manufacturing personnel, and personnel performing field work. 
  • Office work includes activities associated with engineering, scientific research and reports, administrative support, and various corporate support functions such as accounting and human resources.  Manufacturing activities include manufacturing furnaces and other specialized thermal process equipment and the installation of such equipment at client facilities. Field work may include construction, remediation, operations and maintenance, environmental investigation, and field engineering activities self-performed by O'Brien & Gere, subcontractors, or other contractors directly hired by clients.
  • Specific tasks may include, but are not necessarily limited to, facilitating or participating in HazOp reviews at the design stage for major projects, prequalifying contractors in accordance with O'Brien & Gere and client procedures, completing client prequalification forms, managing O'Brien & Gere's ISNet account, reviewing subcontractor safety plans, reviewing or developing O'Brien & Gere safety plans or JSAs, performing safety inspections, supporting accident and near-miss investigations, ergonomic evaluations of computer work stations, and performing EH&S training.
  • Travel is highly variable but can involve periods of extended travel.  Corporate Health and Safety Specialists may be required to support large field programs which can require travel that lasts for several weeks to several months.  At other times travel is shorter typically requiring 1-3 days to visit field projects or perform training at other offices.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Live near, or relocate to, Syracuse NY.
  • Good communication skills including having a comfort level with public speaking and training.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to confront unsafe behavior and subsequently coach people in the desired behavior.
  • Good computer skills with a strong ability to work with PowerPoint and Excel Spreadsheets.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% on average.
  • 5 years’ experience with a CIH or CSP or the ability to sit for the CIH or CSP exam or 8 years’ experience with OHST or CHST.
  • Work experience to include remediation and construction safety.

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience
