The Opportunity
Our client, one of the world’s largest mining companies, is currently in an exciting phase of growth. As part of this growth a new highly visible role has been created within the Heritage group to lead and drive heritage and land access initiatives.

The Role
You will be a central legal figure for the heritage team advising on regulatory matters under S16 & 18 of the Act. Working closely with a group of technical specialists, you will define and interpret the legal framework that the business units are able to work within. Critical to your success will be your ability to develop strategic options, and engage and influence key stakeholders. You will engage directly with indigenous stakeholders, and will assist in developing long term and positive working relationships.

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Legal support for the Heritage team during daily operations
  • Post-submission support for Section 18 and Section 16 approvals
  • Monitor DIA administrative processes and provide strategic advice
  • Assisting in partnership development with local Heritage Consultants and Universities
  • Support the management of Trusts/Trustees
  • Auditing of internal processes to ensure compliance standards are being met
To be successful you will bring:
  • A strong legal background
  • Thorough understanding of the Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title Act
  • An ability to think strategically and work in an unstructured environment
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to deal with tough situations
  • Ability to break down legal jargon and discuss the details with the wider group
