Assistant Professor Position in Geophysics / Geomodeling

The Nancy School of Geology (ENSG) is currently seeking excellent candidates for a permanent Assistant Professorship (Lectureship) in Geophysics/Geomodeling, to start in September 2012. The Nancy School of Geology is part of the University of Lorraine and is a French "grande école d'ingénieurs".

The University of Lorraine represents the second largest centre of geoscience research in France with over 450 personnel and a research budget of over 15 million €. The successful candidate will carry out his/her research in the future 'Georessources' research centre, which will regroup the current g2r laboratory (www.g2r.uhp-nancy.fr), the Gocad research group (www.gocad.org) and the geomechanics laboratory (http://laego.inpl-nancy.fr). Founded over 100 years ago, the Nancy School of Geology produces over 120 Masters-level graduates each year in applied geosciences and engineering. Admission is through a highly competitive national examination ensuring that students are strong in quantitative sciences as well as geosciences.

This prestigious School has developed strong partnerships with national and international industry in all fields of applied geosciences.

PROFILE
Candidates should have an outstanding research and teaching record in theoretical, computational or applied geophysics and / or geomodeling. The assistant professor will join the geomodeling research team (see www.gocad.org) and will contribute with original research projects in geophysical and geological modeling. His/her research will preferably be methodological, but may also include applied geophysics, especially to develop the quantitative understanding of geological objects and of the associated resources (basins, reservoirs, faults, etc). Teaching will include geophysics, geomodeling and applied mathematics. Field course experience will be appreciated. The assistant professor will also participate to the collective tasks of the School.
