Director, Corporate Communications

The Opportunity:

HudBay Minerals is seeking to secure a proactive individual who will assist with the expansion of the corporate communications program and CSR related communications in both North and South America. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience working in a rapidly growing business environment.

The Mandate:

This leadership role oversees both internal and external communications for the organization. This position leads the strategic communication initiatives and works with the senior leadership team on communication policies and media relations. He/she will also play a role in monitoring strategies relating to environmental matters and community relations.  A key element of the role is to provide leadership to ensure that the company's corporate identity is protected and maintained.

The Accountabilities:

  • Understand HudBay's strategy, aspirations, it's business units and key executives and regional personnel
  • Lead the implementation of internal communications and employee engagement strategy across the organization
  • Develop and drive the next phase of internal communications and employee engagement approach
  • Oversee production of CSR  report (working with the CSR team under the direction of the VP CSR)
  • Assist with government relations in Canada and Peru at the Federal level
  • Involved in the management of key agency, government and supplier relationships
  • Provide Government relations support as required in the state of Michigan
  • Work closely with the HR group to drive critical employee communications initiatives.

The Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in a similar role
  • A University degree in Engineering, Environmental sciences, Finance, Economics or Communications required
  • Experience dealing with the media
  • Ability to produce best in class communications materials
  • Experience working for an international, publicly listed mining company
  • Understanding of best practices in corporate communications, media relations, government relations and CSR reporting
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work with senior executives at C-suite and board of directors as required
  • Experience managing public company disclosure including annual reports, CSR reports and other materials
