Junior GIS

GIS Position

Principal duties and responsibilities are but not limited to:

• To provide Geographical Information System (GIS)
• GIS data sourcing, creation and editing
• Geospatial data processing and analysis
• Basic Image Processing and analysis and application
• Regulation plans as per Department of Mineral Resources requirements
• Integrating geo-spatial data according to project needs
• Support for exploration and mining operation data management systems
• Shape files interaction with other software for communication & presentations
• Undertake generative target mapping and geospatial analysis, integrating geological features, structure, geoscience data such as geochemistry etc with spectral and geophysical data and interpretations
• Management and map cataloguing of the central Mineral Rights
• Interface and manage mineral right / lease cadastral and ownership data, and assist in the submission of mineral rights reports and applications
• Assist in design and creation of presentations
• Support and interface with the IT Department with appropriate scripting for specific plans or diagrams to be available for corporate monthly and quarterly presentations
• Assist where appropriate in data gathering, processing and presentations for due diligences and new business activities
• Field visits & verifications, as well as assistance to the teams in all company related aspects
• Provides GIS (and other) database development, management, and maintenance
• Collects data and performs analyses as needed
• Represents the company in job related matters
• Become proficient with TGIS Software Suite
• Capturing the location of relevant items using GPS (global positioning system) tools in the field
• desk-based data capture (digitising) to convert paper maps to GIS datasets

Qualifications

• Appropriate qualifications & experience in applied GIS. 
• Understanding and competency in structural geology, as well as an understanding of South African coal deposits and related mineral systems, is an advantage.

• Candidate must have basic knowledge of principles and practices of GIS systems, data collection, databases, and mapping. 
• Computer proficiency and the ability to review and interpret job related plans are essential.
• Demonstration of oral and written communication is necessary (The candidate must be able to communicate in Afrikaans as well). 
• The job requires the ability to quickly comprehend a wide range of technical concepts and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• This Job might require out of office duties, interactions and travelling. 
• Must have own transport and valid driver’s licence.
