Our Air Quality Engineer careers provide you with an opportunity to work on air quality permitting, environmental management systems (EMS) and auditing, and air compliance including environmental management information systems (EMIS), in the Great Lakes and Midwest regions particularly focused on military bases and the petrochemical industry. Each day, as a project team member you will be the face of [Company] in a wide variety of air quality tasks, as you develop skills in the field of environmental regulatory compliance, under the guidance of senior staff and through multiple opportunities to work independently and with peers. You should be a self-motivated professional with a minimum of 4 years demonstrated experience as Air Quality Engineer in an industrial environmental consulting environment, and a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each Air Quality Engineer job.
Our Air Quality Engineers:
- Focus on environmental compliance projects, including air quality permitting, estimating emissions, NSPS, NESHAP, and MACT compliance, and direct air quality issues, database management including various EMIS software programs, development of source category specific emission factors, regulatory analysis and reporting for energy production facilities and military bases.
- Travel to client sites and conduct field activities such as sampling and routine testing or observation of activities.
- Demonstrate experience with, and a working knowledge of, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other federal and state laws and regulations, particularly as they relate to the air quality compliance of industrial projects.
- Work independently on multiple opportunities and as part of a mentoring process under the guidance of senior staff and peers.
- Gain experience in environmental compliance auditing, and development, implementation, and auditing of Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
- Serve as technical resource in air quality permitting and compliance, environmental auditing and due diligence, in the Great Lakes and Midwest regions.
- Exhibit excellent verbal communication skills with ability to discuss projects with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and internal team members, and in public in meetings as well as excellent writing skills by producing concise and readable documents.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science from a U.S. accredited college or university
- 4 years’ experience contributing to project teams that have produced air quality permitting and compliance reports
- 4 years’ experience writing and communicating complex technical reports and presentations
- Specific knowledge or experience in one of the following air permitting areas: quantifying emissions and atmospheric transport theory, combustion emission factor development and combustion modeling, new source review (NSR) including prevention of significant deterioration PSD), air emission inventories (AEI), best available control technology (BACT)/lowest achievable emission achievable rate (LAER), best available retrofit technology (BART), maximum allowable control technology (MACT) evaluations, dispersion modeling, combustion modeling and instrumentation set up and calibration
- Knowledge and hands-on experience preparing air quality related permits and environmental plans, particularly for industrial projects as may be required for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Ability to travel up to 50%
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the basic qualifications the following are highly desired but not required:
- Master's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science or from a U.S. accredited college or university
- 7 years’ experience contributing to project teams that have produced air quality permitting and compliance reports and performing environmental audits
