Mines Consultants

The Environment Business within Water & Environment has an ambitious growth plan over the next three years and is looking to augment its management consultancy capability within the heavy industrial sectors (primarily iron & steel, cement and mining). The Heavy Industries Group (HIG) brings together consultants with a wide range of competencies and background but with a shared industrial focus. Core services are primarily related to investment appraisal and strategy and include:

• Strategy, Market, Scoping, Feasibility & Technical Studies
• Due Diligence
• Financial and Risk Modelling
• Banks Engineer / Lender Technical Advisor
• Project Management Consultancy
• Business Appraisal & Institutional Change

The industrial sector is globally in a strong recovery phase and is widely regarded as entering a boom time. A large proportion of HIG clients are large multi-national companies and international financing institutions, investing in industrial projects. Most of these investments are overseas and in the developing economies, where demand and commodity prices are going up and there is a need to increase production, improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

Requirements

We are looking for three individuals who will have a combination of the following skills:
Geologist (primarily iron ore and other primary metals/minerals such as coal, bauxite, chromite, phosphate rock). Key work tasks might include; review a geological formation and have a professional opinion in a due diligence situation and input into a exploitation plan, develop an exploration drilling programme, experience of core shed set up and management and assaying, geological interpretation and preparation of mineral reserves).

Mining Engineer (primarily opencast experience) - with large and medium sized mine development and operation, possibly with mining planning experience. Experience in the use of Whittle or another mine planning software will be beneficial.

Mineral Processing Engineer (primarily iron ore and other primary metals/minerals such are coal, bauxite, chromite, phosphate rock, etc). Key work tasks might include; review an existing mineral processing operation and have a professional opinion in a due diligence situation and input into a financial / business assessment, experience of bench scale and pilot plant test work and development of mineral processing flowsheets.

At least one of these should be a qualified competent person under the JORC or NI43-101 rules.
These are senior posts and ideally the candidates will have a substantial amount of experience in the sector. You must be able to build, maintain and capitalise on relationships with clients and across the [Company] group.

The successful candidates will form part of the team located in Epsom, although we will consider locating the successful candidates in Euston Tower (Central London) or Bristol.Responsibilities

This role has responsibility for:
• Delivery of the existing portfolio of heavy industry business assignments.
• Building and managing existing and new client relationships.
• Contributing to internal development initiatives as required.
• Develop new business, and managing and contributing to bids.
• Managing projects and resources, completing assignments within agreed time-scales and budgets.

• Flexible attitude to working in a multi-discipline environment.
• Degree qualified with membership of a professional body
• Willing to travel.
