Shutdown Cost Analyst

Position Summary:

  • Reports to Engineering and Shutdown Manager.  
Responsible for the following:
  • This position is the primary Shutdown Cost Analyst for the North American Engineering and Shutdown Team.  The Shutdown Cost Analyst position is responsible for monthly project cost reporting, forecasting and cost allocation of shutdowns for all North American Plants, to ensure all shutdowns remain on budget.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable DN HSEQ Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations.
  • Active participation as a member of NA Engineering and Shutdown Team in order to provide financial guidance to Shutdown Coordinators.  This includes providing direction on correct accounting procedures and controls.
  • Responsible for preparing, analyzing and distributing of all statements, reports and projections related to the shutdown life cycle including budget and costs.
  • Assist with budget preparation for projects.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis on each shutdown, including discussions on various issues.
  • Develop monthly shutdown forecasts and analyze shutdown committed costs
  • Create monthly reports for each shutdown.
  • Close out shutdown in SAP
  • Responsible for data integrity within SAP related to shutdown costs to include:
  • Creating internal orders for various shutdowns.
  • Create work orders for shutdown if needed.
  • Allocate overhead costs to shutdowns on a monthly basis.
  • Transfer and allocate costs by performing journal entries.
  • Provide counsel and guidance to Shutdown Coordinators on company policy and procedures, costs, internal controls, limits of authority, expense classification, etc.  Enforce and implement procedures designed to supplement and strengthen internal controls and improve accountability.
  • Serve as liaison to Shutdown Coordinators and Finance Department, assist with any cost and finance related issues. Assist in finding resolution to any invoice issue.
  • Other duties may be assigned within the capabilities of the successful candidate, as determined by management.

Internal Requirements:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or business related field is preferred
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of Project Cost Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Technical:
  • SAP capability, strong working knowledge of spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel, competency with Microsoft suite
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, specifically related to project costing, and practical application in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Understanding of financial processes including budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling

  • Customer focus:  Skill in all aspects of building strong internal and external client relationships. Knowledge of the project engineering and construction practices.
  • Continuous Improvement/Innovation:  Process improvement/efficiencies, loss control, cost reduction.
