We’re looking for valuable assets above ground, too.
Want to advance exciting new projects with some of the best and brightest in the oil sands industry? You could be next to become one of our most valued assets and join an inspired team with no shortage of opportunities!
Osum Oil Sands Corp (Osum) is the only junior oil sands company pursuing a commercial in situ project in the established Cold Lake area of Alberta, and is one of the largest resource holders in the emerging Grosmont carbonate trend, next to Shell and Husky. With an independent evaluation of 3.6 billion barrels of recoverable resources, and sufficient working capital in place to fund our next set of milestones, Osum is hiring to help maximize the value of these assets. Osum’s mission is to provide secure, safe energy to the world through innovative and environmentally responsible business practice. Nothing at Osum Oil Sands Corp. is more important than the safety and well-being of our workers, employees, contractors and neighbors.
Reporting to the Geoscience Manager, the Senior Geologist will be a member of the integrated subsurface team responsible for the geologic understanding of the clastic reservoirs that are being developed by Osum Oil Sands Corp. Specifically, this individual will be the Geologist for the development of the Cretaceous-aged, bitumen-saturated, Cold Lake Taiga reservoir.
Typical work duties include:
- Geologic mapping of the Clearwater and Lower Grand Rapids Formation in the Cold Lake region based on petrophysical logs and core analysis.
- Maintenance and updating of the depositional model for the Taiga Clearwater and Lower Grand Rapids that is built upon detailed core description, petrography, core analysis and a robust facies model.
- Maintenance and updating of the Petrel 3D geostatistical model of the Taiga reservoirs.
- Work with the operations team to plan and drill observation and SAGD wells for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Taiga project.
- Assist in the evaluation of the performance of Phase 1 SAGD wells
- Co-ordination of special studies in the Osum clastic reservoirs.
- Analogue studies and simulations of competitor properties.
- Support the Geoscience Manager in oilsands exploration and property assessments of clastic reservoirs.
To be a preferred candidate you will have a M. Sc with a major in Geology and have 5-10 years’ experience as a petroleum geologist.
You will have a passion to work as part of a dynamic team where things can be ambiguous and ever-changing.
Additionally you will have:
- Expertise with core analysis, facies description, and the development of a geologic model for clastic reservoirs.
- Experience with in situ thermal development of bitumen-saturated reservoirs
- Experience with 3D static modeling – preference of Petrel
- Experience with mapping software (GeoScout and/or Accumap).
- Experience working with reservoir engineers to simulate reservoir production
- Experience with directional drilling and SAGD/CSS planning
- Experience with volumetrics and reserves calculations
- Familiarity with 3D seismic and inversion
- Ability to work well with integrated teams, excellent verbal and written communication skills
- APEGGA membership is preferred
